R-alpha lipoic acid is the naturally occurring enantiomer, and it is unstable in the presence of moisture — which is the reason it is usually put into an oil-filled softgel rather than a tablet. Ours uses a coconut-oil base and an opaque shell. Racemic ALA is the cheaper input if the brief is cost-driven; the two are quoted separately so the price difference is visible.
